Recruitment has begun for the 2017-2018 AmeriCorps service year. Please see below for tips on how to apply.
AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for Community and National Service (CNCS) that engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.
Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands has been a grantee of the AmeriCorps program since 1994 as Project Reach Lutheran Social Services (LSS). Project Reach LSS is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent resident aliens age 17 and older. Members serve full-time for a one year period that runs from August 30 to August 29. In return for their service, the members receive a living allowance; health care; childcare, if they qualify; and become eligible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of the program. In addition to these benefits, they learn new skills, acquire qualities of leadership, and can gain a sense of fulfillment from serving others.
Project Reach Lutheran Social Services recruits AmeriCorps members who are highly committed to social work in general. A member must have patience, good communication skills, and be at ease working with either children in a group care environment, adults with disabilities, or seniors.
Members may be placed at any one of the following LSSVI program sites:
– St. Croix:
- Queen Louise Home for Children
- Flambouyant Gardens
- Ginger Thomas Residence
- LSSVI Housing Management Division
– St. Thomas:
