On Wednesday, February 14th, 2023, several members of HUD, including Claudia Monterrosa, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Grant Programs, joined representatives from the Virgin Island Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) – including VIHFA Interim Executive Director and Chief Disaster Recovery Officer Dayna Clendinen – to visit the Sister Emma Cottage (SEC) at the Queen Louise Home for Children (QLH).
The SEC currently serves as a home for children and young adults with severe physical and developmental disabilities or who are medically fragile. Led by QLH Director Uklyn Hendricks, the tour showcased the current SEC facility and then transitioned to the site of the new Sister Emma Cottage.
The new facility promises exciting features, including a state-of-the-art simulation room designed to provide enhanced resources and a more comfortable home for our SEC residents. We’re thrilled about the potential of this new building to uplift and empower those in our care.
Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands expresses heartfelt gratitude to HUD for their ongoing support and commitment to our mission. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this exciting journey!
